Richmond and Kew gardens

This is where we most often work with garden designers rather than directly for the owner. The Georgian and Victorian houses along the Thames between Richmond Hill, Kew and St Margarets have gardens that have been thought about, planted and often terraced, and a staircase has to earn its place. We work from the designer’s drawings, match levels to their groundworks, and fit at the right point in the programme.

What works here

Powder-coated dark bronze or grey suits the formal houses; dark green works in planted schemes. Where a designer is supplying stone treads to continue a terrace down to a lawn, we make the steel trays to carry them. Many houses back onto the river or Kew’s conservation areas, and the borough is careful about anything visible from the towpath, so we prepare drawings that are ready for an application if the designer needs one. Flood-zone gardens are detailed with foundations and fixings that tolerate wet ground.
